PS. Sounds like you are talking about “specific” generic spam. I was just seeing “generic spam” tossed around on any old post, but in your case, it sounds like they at least target it at “relevant” posts. Hmmm….

Steve – This just spam fun just goes on and on. If you take a look at my recent post, linked to my name on this comment, you can see the latest technique these human spammers are using to try and get us to leave their links up. Tell me what you think. I left that particular one up for the purposes of that post, but I deleted 2 others yesterday. One comment turned up verbatim on at least 20 other blogs. It was a comment about soda drinking. I wonder if the person posted all 20 copies or if there is an automated way they are doing it? grrrr!!

hi trade show guru,
I know what you mean. We have a trade show blog, and 90% of the comments we get are spam. It’s pretty easy to tell when someone is just looking for a link and just vomits up a “comment”. I spend so much time clicking “delete” I think I might get carpal tunnel from it! Anyway, I love your contest idea. I also love trade shows.
Well, I probably should get back to my own blog as I’m sure I have some deleting to do. That’s why they call me the trade show spaminator!

Hey Steve – Just in case you are not subscribed to the comments on that post, (linked to my name), take a look at my latest comment on it and the one right before. This is exactly the type of spammer I was writing about. He left several comments, including one on this post about these spammers! Am I being unreasonable in my definition of spam? Or are they just incredibly dumb? Or smart, if most people leave these types of comments on their sites.
